Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the questions we expect most people might have about the TodaysHomemaker.com store. If your question isn't addressed here, you can contact me, and I'll find the answer for you.
What do the mixes look like when they arrive?

Check out this post on the blog for an example. Each label is uniquely designed and hand-crafted especially for TodaysHomemaker.com. You will not find packaging like ours anywhere else.

How much is shipping?

**Special Notice: Until August 31, enjoy $2.50 shipping, no matter how much you order.**

Oh, the joys of shipping calculation. Postage has just gotten outrageous, if you ask me. USPS now charges $8.95 for a flat rate box. Crazy, huh? I'd love to pay for all of the shipping costs myself, but then I wouldn't be able to do this for very long.

So here's my solution:
Up to $15.00 $5.50
$15.01 to $40.00 $6.50
$40.01 to $70.00 $7.50
$70.01 to $100.00 $8.50
$100.01 and up $9.50
And for those of you who live in Hampton Roads, shipping is free. Contact me to get your special validation code.

What is your return policy?

We want you to be completely satisfied with your experience with us. That's such an empty phrase these days, so let me be more specific:

If you receive an item that is damaged, spoiled, or otherwise in bad condition, we will gladly send a replacement or refund your money, no questions asked. You may be asked to ship the damaged products back to us; in which case, we will pay for the return shipping.

If you receive an item that you just don't like the taste of, we know how disappointing that can be. Although "there's no accounting for taste" as the saying goes, we still want to make it up to you. Just let us know, and we will give you a store credit to use on your next order.

That's it. Just a plain, straightforward plan to get things fixed for you. So what do you do first if you're not happy? Let me know. We'll get it worked out or die trying.

Do I have to pay taxes?

If you live in the great state of Virginia, you will be charged a 2.5% sales tax for all food items (aka: $2.50 on a $100 order). You will be charged 4.5% sales tax for all non-food items.

If you do not live in Virginia, we do not charge sales tax. Does this mean you do not pay taxes on items your order online? That's debatable. Check your local tax laws.

Is paying by credit card through your site safe?

Yep. We use PayPal to process all credit card orders. And I quote: "PayPal uses the Secure Sockets Layer protocol (SSL) with an encryption key length of 128-bits (the highest level commercially available)."

How long will my order take to get here?

Your order will be processed from our store within 24 hours. You should receive it in 5-7 business days.

What is your shipping method?

Well, we place your order in a box...

Oh. You mean what carrier do we use? That's easy. The cheapest. By keeping our shipping rates low, we keep our customers happy. And sure, the US post office has been the butt of many jokes involving turtles, tortoises, and three-toed sloths, but honestly I think they do a pretty darn good job. And we take the extra step to insure all of our packages for the full amount of the purchase price, so you can be assured that your order will arrive safely.

If for some reason you scoff at the good old post office, let me know. I'll work out something else for you. Granted, you might have to pay more in shipping costs, but if it means that much to you, we understand.

Which payment methods do you accept?

PayPal handles all of our payment processing stuff. Therefore, we use what they use. PayPal payments (of course), Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and eChecks. Note: If you use an eCheck, it usually takes a couple of business days for it to clear before your order can be processed.

Do I have to have a PayPal account to order?

No. You will still go to the PayPal website to process your order, but you do not need to have an account with them to pay via credit card or eCheck.

How do I create a PayPal account, if I want one?

PayPal is free for consumers. All you have to do is sign up. The PayPal sign up process is pretty easy to follow.

What is The Gourmet Cupboard and what is your relationship with them?

Read about the company here. Our relationship with The Gourmet Cupboard is this: they are a completely separate company. We do not represent them in any way, shape, or form; we just carry their products because we like 'em so much.

The product packaging that you'll find here at TodaysHomemaker.com is completely unique to our store. You will not find it anywhere else. Each label is specially designed and hand-crafted for our use. Check out this post for an example.
